Upon purchasing you are in agreement to the terms and conditions stated herewith.

You will not under any circumstances remove, amend, obfuscate or tamper with any of the trade marks, identification numbers, serial numbers, part numbers and/or names affixed to or marked on the product, nor allow any third party to do so. Doing so, without permission from management of Eklutna Trading 9cc, will render your warranty void.

Who May Fit and Service the Part

All turbochargers must be installed by a qualified mechanic with verifiable certification, and/or by an RMI-approved workshop holding valid membership, proficient and experienced in turbocharger work and working to the vehicle and engine manufacturer's specifications and guidelines. All CHRA and cartridge core work, and all turbocharger servicing, must be carried out by a qualified turbo technician. Fitment or repair by unqualified individuals or establishments will render your warranty void.

This requirement extends to the supporting parts and repairs. All work on the supporting systems listed under Pre-Installation Checks below — including but not limited to the oil feed and drain lines, banjo bolts and restrictors, oil pump, oil cooler, sump and pick-up, crankcase breather and PCV system, intercooler and charge pipework, air filter and intake tract, fuel filter and fuel system, exhaust manifold, catalytic converter and DPF, and all boost control components, sensors and wiring — must be carried out by a qualified mechanic and/or an RMI-approved workshop. Any supporting part that requires replacement or repair must be replaced or repaired before the turbocharger is fitted, using parts of the correct specification. Supporting work carried out by anybody who is not suitably qualified, or supporting parts left unrepaired, will render your warranty void.

Turbochargers are precision-balanced assemblies running at extreme speed and temperature. They do not fail on their own. In the overwhelming majority of cases a turbo fails because of a fault elsewhere in the engine, and if that fault is not found and fixed, the replacement turbo will fail in exactly the same way. This is why we hold the customer responsible for the condition of the supporting systems, and not only for the fitment of the turbo itself.

Pre-Installation Checks & Precautions

It is the duty of the customer and/or mechanic to make sure that the initial fault or cause of failure in the vehicle is identified and rectified before the replacement turbo is fitted.

Technical specifications are approximations unless otherwise stated. It is the customer's duty to ensure the part is suitable for its application, please check with your mechanic. It is imperative that you, your mechanic and/or your turbo technician inspect the part immediately upon receipt and physically compare it to your original part, visually and with the use of tools and instruments where required, to ensure the part matches your original exactly. Pay particular attention to the turbo model number, flange and mounting pattern, compressor and turbine housing outlets, oil feed and drain positions, cooling system (oil-cooled versus oil-and-water-cooled), and the actuator type and position.

Please refer to our Turbocharger Installation Checklist, which sets these checks out in full and must be completed and signed by the installing mechanic. A copy is available on request and can be downloaded from this website.

The following must be carried out before and during fitment:

  • Oil supply. The oil feed pipe must be replaced, or removed, cleaned and proven clear. Banjo bolts, restrictors and any inline filter or gauze must be checked and cleaned or replaced. A partially blocked feed is the single most common cause of repeat turbo failure.
  • Oil drain. The oil return pipe must be checked and proven clear and unrestricted. It must not be kinked, flattened or routed above the oil level.
  • Oil and filter. Fresh oil of the correct grade and specification for the engine must be used, and a new oil filter must be installed.
  • Oil pressure. Engine oil pressure must be tested and confirmed to be within the manufacturer's specification before the turbo is put under load.
  • Crankcase breather / PCV. The breather system must be inspected and cleared. Excessive crankcase pressure will push oil past the turbo seals and will be read as a leaking turbo.
  • Debris removal. All debris from the previous failure must be removed from the intake system, intercooler and pipework. The intercooler must be flushed or replaced. Debris left in the system will be drawn straight into the new compressor wheel.
  • Air filter and intake. A new air filter must be fitted and the full intake tract inspected for leaks and foreign objects.
  • Fuel filter and fuel system. A new fuel filter must be fitted and the fuel system checked, including injectors and fuel pressure. Poor fuelling raises exhaust gas temperature and will damage the turbine wheel and bearing housing.
  • Exhaust side. The exhaust manifold, catalytic converter and DPF (where fitted) must be checked for blockage and excessive back pressure.
  • Actuator and VNT/VGT settings. Wastegate and VNT/VGT actuators are preset and calibrated at manufacture. The actuator rod length, preload or stop must not be adjusted, shortened, lengthened or tampered with in any way. Any adjustment will render your warranty void.
  • Sensors and controls. Boost control solenoids, vacuum lines, electronic actuator wiring and boost/MAP sensors must be checked and confirmed working.

Start-Up Procedure

Before starting the engine, the CHRA must be primed with clean engine oil through the oil feed port and the shaft rotated by hand. The engine must then be cranked with the fuel or ignition disabled until oil pressure is established, before it is allowed to start. Once running, the engine must be left to idle for at least five minutes before any load or revving. Failure to prime and bed in the turbo correctly will render your warranty void.

After fitment, the vehicle must be allowed to idle for a short period before switch-off following any hard or extended run, so that the turbo can cool and oil can continue to circulate. Hot shutdown will cook the oil in the bearing housing and cause failure.

What You Must Keep for a Claim

To lodge a warranty claim you must be able to produce all of the following:

  • Your proof of purchase for the turbocharger.
  • The completed and signed Turbocharger Installation Checklist, recording the fitment date, mileage, vehicle registration and the cause of the original failure.
  • Proof that the installing workshop is a qualified mechanic and/or RMI-approved — certification or membership details.
  • Invoices for the supporting parts replaced and the supporting work carried out, showing who did the work.
  • A record of the oil and oil filter change carried out at the time of fitment.

Failure to produce these will render your warranty void.

General Warranty Terms

Call out charges are charged at a rate of R1.40/km to reach destination and return, plus a further R250 per hour if there is no fault with the part after a claim of fault.

Only the parts supplied by us are under warranty, with no exception. We will not entertain any claims for labour costs, recovery, transport or incidental, indirect, special or consequential damages such as, but not limited to, physical injuries or property damage, loss of time, loss of use of the vehicle, inconvenience, rental vehicle charges, towing charges, engine damage or accommodation resulting from a defect in or failure of the part. Warranty starts from date of purchase, not when the part is resold or fitted to a vehicle. We will not entertain any claim where a vehicle was unable to be used, for any reason including being impounded by police, until after the warranty period has expired.

Any claim where the fault is not visible, or otherwise apparent, must be supported by an engineer's report from a certified, independent engineer proving fault, together with the proof of purchase. In some instances, regardless of the fault being apparent, we may still request an engineer's report. Any item which is tampered with or stripped after receipt as supplied will render your warranty void. Attempted removal of or tampering with serial numbers will render your warranty void. Failure to comply with any reasonable request, that is not beyond your ability, should a dispute arise, will render your warranty void.

Warranty is valid in the name of the purchaser and is not transferable. Terms of this warranty apply to both new and reconditioned parts, subject to further stipulation below. In the event that a guarantee is listed or stated, it is most likely an error and will not hold true.

What Is Not Covered

  • Oil starvation, delayed oil feed, low oil pressure, or a restricted or blocked oil feed or drain.
  • Dirty, contaminated, degraded or incorrect-specification oil, or failure to change the oil and filter at fitment.
  • Foreign object damage to the compressor or turbine wheel, including debris left in the intake, intercooler or exhaust from the previous failure.
  • Carbon build-up, coking, or damage caused by hot shutdown.
  • Excessive crankcase pressure from a blocked or faulty breather, and any oil leak past the seals resulting from it.
  • Blocked or restricted exhaust, catalytic converter or DPF, and any damage caused by excessive back pressure.
  • Over-speeding or over-boosting, from any cause.
  • Any adjustment, modification or tampering with the wastegate actuator, VNT/VGT actuator, actuator rod, or any preset calibration.
  • Overheating of the engine, and any failure resulting from it.
  • Incorrect fitment, fitment of the wrong part, or fitment by unqualified individuals or establishments.
  • CHRA or servicing work carried out by anyone other than a qualified turbo technician.
  • Any failure where a supporting part that required replacement or repair was not replaced or repaired before the turbo was fitted.
  • Any failure where the supporting parts or repairs were carried out by anybody other than a qualified mechanic or RMI-approved workshop.
  • Normal wear, shaft play within manufacturer tolerance, and surface discolouration.

Performance, Modified and Competition Use

No warranty applies to any part fitted to a vehicle whose ECU has been remapped, chipped or tuned, or whose boost pressure, fuelling or actuator settings have been altered from standard, unless this was expressly agreed with us in writing at the time of sale. No warranty applies to parts used in motorsport, racing, competition, dyno testing or any other performance application. Performance and upgrade parts are supplied for the customer's own application at the customer's own risk, and it remains the customer's duty to confirm suitability, sizing and supporting modifications before purchase.

New

New parts — including complete turbochargers, CHRA cartridge cores, actuators, compressor and turbine wheels, housings and service kits — are under warranty for 6 months from the date of purchase, or until 10,000km of usage has been reached, whichever occurs first.

Where the part is fitted to a vehicle in any of the categories below, the warranty period is 30 days from the date of purchase, or until 10,000km of usage has been reached, whichever occurs first:

  • Vehicles used to carry passengers for reward — minibus taxis, metered taxis, e-hailing vehicles, buses, shuttles, tour and staff transport.
  • Emergency and response vehicles — ambulances, fire and rescue vehicles, security and armed-response vehicles, and roadside assistance and towing vehicles.
  • Driver training vehicles.

These vehicles operate at a duty cycle far above normal use, and the shortened warranty period reflects that.

Used / Recon

Used and reconditioned turbochargers and cartridge cores are sold as is, and are supplied with a 30 day start-up warranty on condition that the unit is professionally reconditioned and balanced by a qualified turbo technician before fitment. We recommend testing and refurbishing before fitting.

Trade

Turbochargers, cartridge cores and turbo components supplied to trade customers, against which a claim is made, must be inspected by the trade customer, with consent from Eklutna Trading 9cc, prior to being returned to Eklutna Trading 9cc. We will only deal with the purchaser or company that bought the part, and not with the end user. All the above conditions still apply.
